During May, we took a vacation/honeymoon to San Francisco/Napa Valley. We had a lot of fun. We had purchased a visitor’s transportation pass that allowed us unlimited rides on the bus, street cars, and cable cars which I am so glad we decided to do because the hills of San Francisco were crazy steep and everywhere! We visited the Golden Gate Park, drove over the Golden Gate Bridge several times, The Japanese Tea Garden, Ocean Beach, Fisherman’s Wharf, dinner at The Cliff House, cocktails at the famous Top of the Mark, The Ferry Building, Union Square (our hotel was at Union Square), Chinatown, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, and walked down the ‘world’s crookedess street’- Lombard Street while in San Francisco. We were everywhere and tried to cover as much as possible during the partial week we were there.
We also spent a full day in Napa Valley. That was my favorite day. We visited Domaine Chadron, V. Sattui, Black Stallion, and Andretti Winery. I don’t know if we have a favorite…I enjoyed all of them. Domaine Chadron I got a little buzzed, V Sattui was definitely gorgeous and lunch at this winery was amazing. Black Stallion had some amazing white wines which I don’t typically lean towards. Andretti was very peaceful… All had great wines! Each day we were on vacation the weather was beautiful, which was great as they held most of our tastings on the winery grounds in outside gardens.
We also spent a morning at Muir Woods. The drive to and from Muir Woods about made me sick, it was a tightly winding narrow road up to the top of a mountain. Both Aaron and I were getting nauseous on the way down especially, the tour guide was taking the corners on two wheels and looking over the cliffs from the passenger window was making me edgy. But we made it safe and soundly. We had a nice little hike in Muir Woods. Aaron found a souvenir that really caught his eye at the gift shop, redwoods and sequoias seeds you take home and grow in your yard. I think he seriously contemplated buying one. He was very in awe of the idea. I was not opposed to him buying it because I would have gotten a kick out of watching him try to grow a sequoia tree in our backyard.
After Muir Woods, we went to a town across the bay called Sausalito, we grabbed lunch here and then rode the ferry back to San Francisco. We really only had time to grab some lunch in Sausalito before catching the ferry to head back but it reminded me of a fun place where girlfriends would go to shop and relax. Lots of local art galleries and little local shops.
Overall our trip was a good time. We probably crammed too much in and would have liked to have one more day or two as were always keeping an eye on the time trying to keep to schedule. I would have loved one or two more days just in Napa Valley alone or even giving Sonoma a try. Now we just need a vacation from our vacation, isn’t that how it seems to go?!?!
